Search Party, Issue 02: Out Now

We reimangined a lot since the last time we saw you. The second issue of Search Party is smaller, more intimate—it fits in your hands. Appropriately, our sophmore album is a music issue featuring a group of St. Louis’ brightest stars: Mai Lee, Nikee Turbo, K Kudda Muzic, RayRay & AR, and DJ Makeda Kravitz.

The rest of the magazine is filled with images, musings, interviews, essays, and curatorial dexterity of our city’s best creatives and tastemakers. Creative directed by Big Esco, art direct by PHONZZ / Forthewhen, and edited by Ariana Swei and myself.

I’ve been thinking about what Search Party mean to me during our time away. This magazine has become a restorative practice for me as a writer, an artist, an editor, and acurator. It anchors me to home. I encourage you to hold this issue close, to share it with your friends. To feel its closeness and expansiveness.

We’re always looking for new voices for upcoming issues. Whether you’re a musician, visual artist, poet, writer, or photographer, we want to hear from you.

  • We welcome submissions from artists and creatives based in or connected to Saint Louis. This includes musicians, visual artists, writers, poets, photographers, and creators of all disciplines.

  • We’re looking for art and stories that explore themes like identity, culture, community, and transformation. Whether it’s photography, illustrations, poetry, essays, or experimental work, we’d love to see it!

  • No, submissions are completely free.

  • Click the "Submit Your Work" button on our website, which will guide you to our submission form. There, you can upload your files and provide details about your work.

    • Visual Art: High-resolution images in JPEG or PNG format.

    • Writing: Up to 1,500 words for essays or short stories; up to 3 poems.

    • Photography: Up to 5 images, with captions or a brief description.

    • Musicians/Recording Artists: Send links via file sharing platforms (Soundcloud, Dropbox, Google Drive)

    • Include a short artist bio (50-100 words) with your submission.

  • Deadlines vary for each issue. Check the submission form or follow us on social media for the latest updates.

  • Yes, contributors whose work is selected will receive a modest honorarium.

  • Yes, but please keep submissions within the guidelines outlined above.

  • Our team reviews all submissions, and you’ll be notified via email if your work is chosen for publication.

  • Absolutely! We encourage all creatives to share their work. If you’re unsure, feel free to contact us with questions before submitting.

  • You retain all rights to your work. By submitting, you grant Search Party the non-exclusive right to publish it in the magazine and online.
